The Outfield Spectator’s Experience at Qiddiya City, KSA’s Motorsports Precinct, is a 150,000 sqm development conceived as a new typology for motorsport venues, where major events and everyday civic life coexist within a single landscape. Developed as an extension of the wider motorsport precinct vision, the project transforms the traditional spectator environment into an active public destination that remains functional beyond race events through an adaptable landscape-driven design approach.
The design concept, developed by Tilke Engineers & Architects GmbH, one of the founding partners of Tilke Focus Design, reimagines the spectator experience through a flexible terraced landscape that can accommodate varying event scales while maintaining year-round public use. Embedded within the natural terrain, the design integrates permanent spectator areas with adaptable event infrastructure, allowing the venue to transition between everyday recreational use and large-scale international motorsport events.
Focus Design Partners, the second founding partner of Tilke Focus Design, was responsible for the design development and engineering of the project, including the coordination of architectural, landscape, civil, and infrastructure systems. The design integrates pedestrian circulation, supporting facilities, utilities, and site infrastructure within the terraced landscape, ensuring efficient operation during major events while maintaining accessibility and usability throughout the year.
The project’s landscape strategy responds to the environmental conditions of Qiddiya through climate-conscious design principles, incorporating locally appropriate planting, shaded public spaces, and durable material solutions that enhance comfort and reduce long-term operational demands. The integration of landscape, infrastructure, and public realm elements establishes a cohesive spectator environment that extends beyond conventional motorsport facilities.
Tilke Focus Design is delivering the construction supervision services for the Outfield Spectator’s Experience, providing multidisciplinary oversight throughout construction to ensure the successful translation of the design intent into the built environment.
